With the rapid economic development in China, cities have sprung up all over the country that have evolved to become specialist cities of production. These cities range from cities that manufacture lighting to furniture production cities. Tong Er Pui is unqiue city in Shenyang that has developed into a fur garment production city; taking on a major portion of all the world’s fur garment productions.
Fur City is a low budget industrial city aimed to create decent factory conditions where existing operators working less adequate conditions could be relocated. With the constraint of factories blocks being cookie cutter buildings, the design works with creating a series of wallpaper facades that add character and identity and a sense of orientation within an otherwise monotonous setting. The wallpaper is comprised of pallets of colour tones giving the development a fun element and echoing the garment trade as a fashion statement.
